HP LaserJet 4V Series Printers and Older Printer Control Panel Display Status and Error Messages

Error message			Printer	Description/action required
FC No Font			HP LaserJet IIISi series printer	The printer could not read the font cartridge.  Re-insert the cartridge and press Continue or Online to resume operation. If the error persists, replace the font cartridge.
FC (top, bottom, both left, right)			All	The font cartridge was removed while the printer was offline and contained buffered print data. Re-insert font cartridge(s) and press Continue.
FE Cartridge  FE Font Cart Err			All	The font cartridge was removed or installed while the printer was online. Turn the printer off and back on to clear the message.
FI Insert Cart  FI Insert Top  FI Insert Btm			HP LaserJet 4, 4M, 4Plus, 4Mplus 4P,4Si series printers	An accessory cartridge was removed while the printer was in an error state. Insert the accessory cartridge and clear any pending error conditions before removing the cartridge.
FR Remove Cart  FR Remove Top  FR Remove Btm			HP LaserJet 4, 4M, 4Plus, 4Mplus , 4Si, and 4P series printers	An accessory cartridge was inserted while the printer was in an error state. Remove the accessory cartridge and clear any pending error condition before inserting the cartridge.
Blank LCD			HP LaserJet SII, IIP, IIP Plus, IID, III, IIID, IIIP, IIISi, 4, 4M, 4Plus, 4Mplus, 4P, 4MP, 4Si, 4Si MX series printers	Printer cannot generate sufficient voltage levels to activate the display panel or the display panel and/or related circuitry is defective. Verify AC power supply and cord are OK. Turn the printer off, wait 10 to 15 minutes, then turn it back on. If the display remains blank, service is required.
Blank LED			HP LaserJet, Plus, and 500 Plus series printers	Printer cannot generate sufficient voltage levels to activate the display panel or the display panel and/or its related circuitry is defective. Verify AC power supply and cord are OK.
Config Lang			HP LaserJet IIP, IIP+, IID, III, IIIP, IIID, and IIISi, 4, 4Mplus, 4P, 4MP series printers	The printer was turned on while holding down the ENTER key. This allows the operator to select a local language for display. See Language below.
Language=XX			HP LaserJet IIP, IIP+, IID, III, IIIP, IIID, IIISi series printers	This status message will default to Language = English . Press the + (plus) or - (minus) key to select one of six languages. Press ENTER key once, then put printer back online.
MF Ready			HP LaserJet IIP, IIP+, IIIP series printer	The printer is displaying a status message indicating the front panel selection of manual feed being turned on. Insert paper into the multi-purpose tray to continue.
MF Feed [paper size]			HP LaserJet 4, 4M, 4Plus, 4Mplus, 4Si, 4Si MX, 4P, 4MP series printers	The printer requested that media be manually fed. Paper size may be: Letter, Legal, Exec, or A4. Insert the appropriate media size into the MP tray (Manual feed guides on HP LaserJet 4Si Printer) and press online to print or press Continue to feed from the Paper Cassette. On the HP LaserJet 4P series printer insert the appropriate media into the manual feed slot and it will automatically pull the paper.
ME Feed envelope			HP LaserJet 4, 4M, 4Plus, 4Mplus, 4Si, 4Si MX, 4P, 4MP series printers	The printer requested that an envelope be manually fed. Envelope size may be: COM 10, Monarch, DL, C5, B5, or Envelope. Insert the appropriate envelope size into the MP tray (Manual feed guides on HP LaserJet 4Si series printer) and press online to print. On the HP LaserJet 4P series printer insert the appropriate media in the manual feed slot and it will automatically pull the paper.
MP Load  LC Load  LE Load			HP LaserJet IIP, IIP+, IIIP series printers	This message appears when the multi-purpose tray, the lower cassette or lower envelope tray are empty and have been chosen by the front panel as the selected paper tray. Load correct paper size and put the printer back online. Verify MP (Multi-Purpose) and LE (Lower Envelope) sizes are properly set.
MPLoad  PCLoad  LCLoad [paper size]			HP LaserJet 4, 4M, 4Plus, 4Mplus series printers	The printer received a request for a paper or envelope size not available in the printer (or the tray is empty). The MP=Multi-Purpose, PC=Paper Cassette and LC =Lower Cassette. Paper size may be Letter, Legal, Exec, OR A4; for MP Tray, envelope may be COM10, Monarch, DL, C5, or B5. Load the correct paper tray and/or media or press continue to use the media in the installed tray.
				The printer received a request for a paper size not available in the printer or the paper cassette is empty. PC =Paper Cassette. Paper size may be Letter, Legal, Exec, or A4. Load the correct paper size in tray or press continue to use the media in the installed tray.
			HP LaserJet 4Si, 4Si MX series printers	The printer received a request for a paper size not available in the printer or both paper trays are empty. The UC=Upper Cassette and LC =Lower Cassette. Paper size may be Letter, Legal, Exec or A4. Load the correct paper size in tray or press Continue to use the media in the installed tray.
