Sometime ago I got an HTC Wildfire and was having loads of fun using it, but every time I wanted to do anything HTC wildfire 2.2.1 root to HTC wildfire Android 2.3 | Install Android 2.3 on HTC Wildfire | How to root Htc Wildfire 2.2.1 more "creative" i was stopped by the binded nature of phone, hence i decided to root it (jailbreak it apple fellas) and get complete control over my device. Here, I am covering step by step guide to root HTC wildfire 2.2.1 and install Android 2.3 on HTC Wildfire.

To do the rooting you must have your Wildfire with S-OFF, HBOOT 1.02.0002 and Android 2.2.1 . You can check it by booting into HBOOT (power on your phone by holding the VOLUME DOWN + POWER button) .This method is strictly for the 2.2.1 owners. How you can turn the S-OFF is your headache, you can try the alpharev (ask the team if they can get you a 2.0 test version... :P) or you can wait for Unrevoked 3.33 or you can straight off go to market and hunt for XTC clip. Either way, try it and dont attempt to anything before you get S-OFF. Actually the notorious S-ON flag is the cause rooting wildfire is such a pain in the a**.

Step 1 - Installing the USB drivers

Download USB drivers and extract them on desktop. Turn off your wildfire and boot into HBOOT by holding the VOLUME DOWN + POWER button. Connect your phone to your PC and it will show "drivers installing" or similar there for Android device. When prompted , install the drivers by going to device manager and browsing to the folder where you extracted the drivers. Once installed, disconnect and reboot your phone normally.

Now you need to install the Android bootloader interface. Connect it to your HTC wildfire to the PC and it will ask for drivers again, now go to device manager, click on unknown device,

click on update driver -> install from specific location -> No i will choose to install -> choose Android phone and click on adb interface -> click next -> when asked to install click on continue anyway, just install them.

Once done you will see your phone recognized as "Android bootloader interface". Now disconnect your phone and go into

settings -> applications - > development - > enable USB Debugging.

Congratulations, the first step is complete.

Step 2 - Downgrading from Android 2.2.1 Froyo to Android 2.1 Eclair

Download the RUU rom which is an original stock rom. Plug your phone into the PC and set it to "Charge through USB". Double click RUU rom .exe. Follow the on screen instructions and then let it install. Your phone will reboot into stock HTC 2.1 :) This will be the last time you will be seeing it though.

The HBOOT version will be now 0.80.0002 (check it by powering on your phone by holding the VOLUME DOWN + POWER button) Once done disconnect your phone.

Step 3 - Gaining root using UnrEVOked , get clockworkmod and set your phone free :)

Download the test version of unrevoked. Let me repeat, DO NOT USE UNREVOKED 3.32 as it will lead to CID errors or to be precise this error

"validation error backup cid is missing"

This may be caused as the 3.32 doesnot support HBOOT 0.82.0002. Hence You need specific test version of Unrevoked 3.2 to do the job. Download it, save it on desktop, and run it. Now connect your phone and the rooting will start. Once donw, you will have Clockworkmod recovery installed on your phone. Reboot your phone now (using the VOLUME UP/DOWN key for navigation and clicking using TRACKBALL, the POWER button takes you back in menus). Once rebooted, you will see the superuserapp in your phone and congratulations, your phone is successfully rooted :)

Step 4 - Installing Cyanogenmod 7 or Android Gingerbread 2.3.3

Download the Cyanogenmod 7 with google apps and save it on desktop, connect your phone as USB diskdrive and transfer both zip files on SD card. Once done, reboot your phone into ClockworkMod Recovery (booting by holding the VOLUME DOWN + POWER button and clicking on recovery)

Once the device boots into the ClockworkMod Recovery, use the side VOLUME buttons to move around, and either the POWER button or the TRACKBALL to select.

Select the option to Wipe data/factory reset.
Then select the option to Wipe cache partition.
Select Install zip from sdcard.
Select Choose zip from sdcard.
choose update-cm-7.0.0-buzz-signed.zip & Let it install.
Once done, Select Install zip from sdcard.
Select Choose zip from sdcard, choose gapps-gb-20110307-signed.zip
Once the installation has finished, to get back to the main menu by clicking the POWER button and select the Reboot system now option.

Congrats..The HTC Wildfire should now boot into CyanogenMod.

Finally rooted :)

January 2013 Compact Smartphone Buyers Guide

It is a New Year and I will be doing things a bit differently this year, instead of a classifying phones by price, the guides will switch to classifying phones by size. Given the wide range of sizes available these days, a prime buying consideration is what phone is comfortable to each user which depends in a large part to how big your hand are.

First up is the compact category, made up of phone which are 4-inches or less in screen size.

Prices indicated are for phones with a manufacturers warranty.

1. Cherry Mobile Flare (Php3,999) - Uneatable value

The Android powered the Cherry Mobile Flare is an excellent value for money proposition. The hardest part about deciding to buy a Cherry Mobile Flare is finding one. When you do find a Cherry Mobile outlet with stocks of the Flare, you will probably have to wait in line to get one.

What makes the Cherry Mobile Flare such a desired product. The Flare combines a decently large and sharp 4-inch WVGA (480 x 800) display, with a sufficiently powerful Qualcomm MSM8255 S4 Play chipset, with a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor and Adreno 203 graphics. Match this with a low Php3,999 retail price and you have a winning combination. This kind of hardware is the same as what you find smartphones from other brands priced at 13K or more.

The Cherry Mobile Flares specifications are pretty much the same as what you find in other lower cost models, with dual SIM support, 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB of storage (half of which is user available), a MicroSD card slot, and a 5 MP camera and VGA front camera. The battery is a decent sized 1500 mAh unit.

For an operating system, it comes Android 4.0.4, rather than the newer Android 4.1 or 4..2, but that is not a big issue since the Android 4.x line maintains software compatibility.

This phone is good enough for doing all the typical smartphone stuff, as well as doing a fair bit of gaming too.

Going beyond the Flare in the 4-inch category, you wont find all that much which is very interesting, without spending a lot more money. You may actually want to consider a larger size and take a look at mid-sized offerings.

2. Lenovo P700i (Php10,500) - A decent enough option but a bit expensive

If you are looking for a higher end 4-inch phone, you may want to take a look at the Lenovo P700i. The specifications are nearly identical to the Cherry Mobile Flare, except it comes with a dual core 1 GHz processor with PowerVR SGX531 graphics, instead of Qualcomm unit on the Flare. The PowerVR SGX 531 graphics gives the Lenovo P700i a bit more graphics punch than the Flare. The Lenovo P700i also comes with a much larger 2500 mAh battery.

Given that you can get larger qHD phones for less money, and the Lenovo P700i cost as more than two Flares, the P700i is not all the great choice. Still you could do a lot worst.

3. HTC Windows Phone 8S (Php13,990) - The best value for money Windows Phone ever

If you have been looking to try a Windows Phone, the HTC Windows Phone 8S, gives you a very good reason to do so now. The HTC Windows Phone 8S comes with the latest version of Windows for smartphones, Windows Phone 8. The HTC 8S has a 4-inch WVGA (480 x 800) display. It is paired with a 1 GHz dual core Qualcomm Krait processor built on the still cutting edge 28 nm technology. Paired with a 1700 mAh battery, the frugal processor and larger than average battery promises long battery life.

The other specifications are typical of lower end smartphones these days with 4 GB of internal storage expandable via a MicroSD card slot and a 5 MP camera. The phone does not have a secondary camera, which is a bit disappointing and the 512 MB of RAM make me worry that it might not be upgraded to the next version of Windows. Still, all in all, it is a pretty good choice for the money.

4. Samsung Galaxy S3 mini i8910 (Php14,500) - An excellent mid-priced phone with Jelly Bean on board

When this phone was announced speculation, was that it was a miniature version of the Samsung Galaxy S3. That is not the case. The Galaxy mini is an all together different phone. Rather than a mini super phone, it is a decent mid-level offering.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 mini comes with 1 GB of RAM, which is more than the 512 or 768 MB you get from its lower cost competition. The 1 GHz dual processor is paired with Mali 400 graphics, which is a much faster graphics chips than the Adreno 203 or PowerVR SGX 531. Internal storage is good 8 GB, expandable via a MicroSD card.

Samsung Galaxy S3 mini also comes with an VGA front camera and primary 5MP unit. The 5 MP camera on the Galaxy S 3 mini is a good one. It is not just the megapixels that make the camera on the Galaxy S3 mini better, but the higher quality sensor and optics. The 5MP camera on the Samsung Galaxy S3 mini compares well with other similarly priced phones like the 8 MP camera on the Sony Xperia P, which has been on this blogs recommended list since the phone came out. The Xperia P is really the Galaxy S3 minis main competition. But with a 1500 mAh battery as opposed to the smaller 1305 mAh unit on the Xperia P, the Galaxy S3 mini gives over six hours of talk time and over 7 hours of screen on time, which is much better than the 5 hours of talk time and 4 hours of screen on time on the Xperia P, which give the Galaxy S3 mini the decisive edge.

5. Apple iPhone 5 (Starts at Php33,600)

The Apple iPhone 5 is the best iPhone every built. The main feature of the iPhone 5 is the new 4-inch (640 x 1136) display, but behind the display is 1 GB of RAM and the new dual core A6 processor, making this twice as powerful as the iPhone 4S. The A6 processor is built on 32 nm technology, which gives the iPhone 5 not only more power, but also better battery life than previous iPhones. The 8 MP camera is rivaled only by the 8MP camera on Samsung phones, and the dedicated camera centric smartphones. It is also the only phone on this list which can capture 1080p video.

The Apple iPhone 5 comes in three models, with 16 GB, 32 GB or 64 GB of storage. Storage is not expandable.

This is by far the best compact smartphone in the market, but it also cost more than twice as much as its direct competition.

After opening your Image in Photoshop,Select the Clone Stamp Tool, pick a good sized brush depending on the
object you want to remove and set the opacity to about 95%.

Hold alt and click somewhere to take a good sample. (Wherever you take a sample, that’s what your going to be drawing in place of the removed object).

Release alt and carefully click and drag the mouse over the item you wish to remove. (You will notice that the spot where you took the sample will follow your movements).

Continue to repeat steps 2 and 3 until the unwanted object is completely gone. You might have to change techniques a little based on available places to take a good sample. With practice this tool is very valuable.

Download and install Ccleaner now - www.ccleaner.com

Run CCleaner
1. Go to Start-> Programs (or All Programs) -> CCleaner, and then click on “CCleaner”.
2. Now click the “Analyze” button. This wil analyze what needs to be cleaned up within Windows.
3. Click the “Run cleaner” button. (You wil get a warning message saying it is going to
permanently delete these files. CLICK OK)
4. Close CCleaner and restart windows.

Optimization Tip #2 -

Defragment Windows
Over time files on your computer become fragmented. This means that one file or program can be
scattered in several pieces throughout your hard drive.
Windows Defragmentation utility will defragment your hard drive and eliminate "spaces" that may have
been left where files were deleted or moved. It will organize al the files on your hard drive, making
them easier for your harddisk to find them and in turn execute them faster.
Run this tool at least once a month.

Here are two important things to keep in mind before running defrag:
? Make sure you run CCleaner before you run defrag (so you don’t realign unnecessary crap on
your hard drive).
? Try to keep the percentage of free space over 15% on the disk you are going to defrag – this
enables ‘Disk Defragmenter’ to complete its job with optimal results.

Run Windows Defragmenter:
1. Go to: Start –> Al Programs -> Accessories –> System Tools –> Disk Defragmenter
2. Select the disk C: from the column ‘Volume’ in the top window and then click
‘Defragment’ button.
3. Note: The defrag process will take quite a while to complete.
4. Once it is complete, the new windows wil pop up and tel you ‘Defragmentation is
complete for C’. Click the ‘Close’ button.
5. Repeat this process for your other hard drives and partitions.

Optimization Tip #3 -

Remove Unused Applications
1. Click on Start > Control Panel > click on “Add or Remove Programs”.
2. Look through this list and see if you can spot programs you haven’t used for a long time
and that you know you wil not use again. They are just sitting there, wasting disk space
and possibly decreasing your overal computer performance. Uninstal these programs by
selecting the specific program with your mouse (1) and then clicking on the ‘Remove’ button
(2).

Optimization Tip #4 -

Turn Off Windows Indexing Service
(Free Up System Resources)

To turn off the Indexing service, follow these steps:
1. Double-click My Computer, point to Explorer Bar on the View menu, and then click Search.
2. Click Change preferences, and then click Without Indexing Service.
3. Click No, do not enable Indexing Service, and then click OK.

Turn Off System Sounds

Apapaun rencana kita, serapih apapun konsepnya jika kita tidak focus dan cenderung menundanya maka konsep tinggallah konsep yang menjadi angan-angan belaka.

Java Installs Adware With Plugin Part Of Growing Mac Adware Attacks

Sadly, like a lot of customer adverse companies, Oracle is now packing adware with its Java plugin installer. Beware!

My colleague Thomas Reed caught up with the situation and has done some testing to see whats going on. I recommend reading his The Safe Mac article found here:

Java now installing adware

Despite the fragility of the adware install process, this is still going to be a problem for many people installing Java. Oracle should be ashamed of themselves! Since Java has repeatedly posed security problems in the past, and Oracle has now shown a willingness to infect their own users with adware, I strongly recommend avoiding Java if at all possible. For those who must have Java, Trouton has posted information in his Der Flounder article on how to run the Java installer only, found inside the adware-riddled Java 8 Update 40 application, which should install Java without the toolbar.

For those affected by this Ask Toolbar, I have added detection of the Ask browser extensions and support files to my AdwareMedic app and my Adware Removal Guide. And thanks to Rich Trouton for bringing attention to this issue!

Oracle’s Java 8 Update 40 – The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

You will be prompted to set Ask.com as your browser homepage, with the choice to do so checked off by default. If left checked, Safari’s homepage will be set with a search.ask.com URL and a Safari extension will be used to install an Ask.com toolbar.

Thomas Reed found that the Java installer will install a corresponding plugin depending upon which web browser you have set as your default. With regards to Safari, he found that it also had to be running at the time for the adware installer to work, if it worked at all.

Needless to say, DONT fall for the adware installation! You dont want that crap on your Mac. If you do get skewered, grab a copy of Thomas free/donationware Adware Medic and get rid of it.

ATTACK OF THE ADWARE!

The Windows community has been getting hammered with adware for many years. Now the adware rats have caught up with the Mac community and are infesting the stuff into everything possible. I wrote an article last year, over at MacSmarticles, about the ruination of VersionTracker after CNET/CBS made it just as bad as the rest of their Downloads.CNET.com website. It is now nearly impossible to download anything from the CNET site without having adware foisted at you by its installers. The same thing is going on at just about every other downloads website. I gladly point out that MacUpdate.com is an exception as well as MajorGeeks.com. These are the only two download websites I trust at this point in time.

Recently, the computer manufacturer Lenovo has been slammed by the computer community for infesting their computers with crapware that included a diabolical adware program called Superfish. The adware was built on a code foundation provided by the company Komodia. Their awful software features:

- Faked security certificates used to allow the software to spy on your SSL/TLS, HTTPS connections over the Internet.
- A private encryption key that is protected by the password "komodia". That password doesnt just work in Superfish, but in ALL Komodia software that makes use of spying on HTTPS web streams. The number of affected applications is expected to be near 100.

It has also been discovered that other programs pull the same security trickery:

EFF unearths evidence of possible Superfish-style attacks in the wild
Crypto-busting apps may have been exploited against visitors of Google and dozens more.

One such program is PrivDog, provided by Internet security certificate provider Comodo Group, who have already suffered scandal by releasing nine fraudulent certificates faking themselves to be the likes of Google, Yahoo, Skype and Windows Live. This gives Comodo two black eyes.

Then add to this situation the fact that at least two anti-malware applications have been found to perform the same faked security certificate trick as a method for catching malware being downloaded to your computer. They are provided as deep inspection features of their software, which I obviously suggest you TURN OFF. Those two anti-malware programs are Malwarebytes and Avast. I found out about Malwarebytes via word-of-mouth and am waiting for solid verification.

No doubt, other such questionable software, crapware and adware will be uncovered in the coming months and some of it will run on Macs.
